To stimulate the enthusiasm for and interest in Chinese learning of foreign students, and enhance their understanding of Chinese character strokes and Chinese culture, the "First Chinese Characters Dictation Contest for Foreign Students of Tongren University" is held by the School of International Education on June 3.Dr. Li Qian and Associate Professor from the School of International Education, and Mr. Li from the Office of International Affairs act as the judges for the Contest. He Ting and Ran Yiming, teachers of the University, respectively act as the chief examiners of Group A and Group B. More than 200 students and teachers of Tongren University are present to watch the Contest. Nie Ting, a student from the School of Foreign Languages, presides over the Contest.
During the Contest, the participants are calm and composed, despite the fierce competition atmosphere. The marvelous performance of the participants wins constant applause of the audience. After intense contending, for the academic student group, Tong Sai wins the first prize; Song Xi, and Li Feng win the second prize; Ma Lijia and Song Li win the third prize; Meng Kang and other students win the award of merit. For the language student group, Ye Caiyang wins the first prize; Tao Jingjing and Sai En wins the second prize; Kai Hong and Su Lika wins the third prize; Su Landa wins the award of merit.
After the Contest, Dr. Li Qian comments on the participants. Dr. Li speaks highly of many of those foreign students. She says that this is the first Chinese characters dictation contest held by Tongren University. It might not be the best one; but it must be the most significant one. Li adds that the next Contest will be much better as we learn some lessons this year., and hopes that the students will perform better and make better achievements.
